Know Thy Helmet: AGV K3

Are you looking at adding a new helmet to your collection, or simply wanting to replace your ageing helmet with a new one and don’t know where to start? Well, if you want a helmet that can do most of everything, complies with the latest safety standards, comes in a host of colour schemes and fancy designs and comes from a lineage supported by the great Valentino Rossi, and after all that, doesn’t burn a hole in your pocket, we suggest you take a look at the new AGV K3.

When it comes to design, the new AGV K3 has a mix of smooth surfaces and sharp lines. It doesn’t look all that shouty and on the other hand, it is instantly recognizable as an AGV K3. What’s more, AGV offers it in its traditional shade of black, among other monotone colours. For those of you who like a mix of colours on your helmets, AGV is also offering exuberant colour themes, that are bound to fancy your liking. Our personal favourite would have to be the Rossi Winter Test 2018 livery with its beaded pattern that is unlike anything other colour scheme on the K3.

On the safety front, the AGV K3 complies with the latest ECE 22.06 standards, a feat not many helmets have managed to achieve till now. AGV has used high-resistance thermoplastics in designing the shell of the K3, and the EPS liner is made of multi-density liners to provide optimum energy absorption in the event of a crash. The K3 also comes with a collarbone protection profile, and those of you who have studied about riding injuries will know that the collarbone is one of the susceptible areas in the human body in the event of a mishap.

To keep things comfortable, AGV offers a host of features. First and foremost, you get swappable cheek liners for all sizes, which ensures that you can have the most snug fit possible. This not only keep  things comfortable, but it also adds to the safety quotient of the helmet. There is a built-in sun visor to that can be operated with gloves on. Not just that, this sun visor is made of anti-scratch material and can be altogether removed from the helmet without the use of any tools. The AGV K3 is also communication-ready, which means that most generic communication devices can be snapped onto the K3 without a hitch. Also, the K3 is designed to have a dynamic weight of zero at a cruising speed of 130 km/h, which means that at that speed, the weight of the helmet will be negated by the weight of the air acting on it - a great boon when you are out cruising on the highway as it cuts down massively on fatigue.

Lastly, let’s talk about the visor. The AGV K3’s visor ha anti-scratch properties, and the Pinlock Max system keeps the fog at bay. The best bit however is that the visor offers a 190 degree view that allows riders to track objects in a wider field of view, and earlier too - both of which making riding safer. The AGV K3 is then one of the best helmet to get for everyday riding that can be used in most riding scenarios.
